The WMS Academic Team earned First Place in the GCSD Junior Academic Bowl on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at the Beck Administration Building in Georgetown. The team also had three Academic All Stars. These are students who made significant contributions by answering large numbers of questions correctly. WMS has a proud record, earning the championship trophy in 2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13, and again this year. Pictured to the right are:

2013-2014 Team

In the fall of 2012, the KMO Team competed against 506 schools worldwide and placed 111th out of 506, scoring in the top 22%. In this competition, the team placed 2nd out of the teams competing in South Carolina.
Later, in the spring of 2013, the WMS KMO team competed against 508 schools worldwide and placed 55th, putting them in the top 11% of all teams who participated.
In the same competition, this team also placed 1st in the state of South Carolina, Congratulations on a great season!

2012-2013 Team
Congratulations to the WMS Academic Team, Jonah Crosby, Matt Maxiner, Coach Joel Gibson, Jacob Alvarez, Coach Debbie Gouldin, Coach Downing Hudson, and Dr. Mark Phillips, Principal. WMS has earned the championship trophy in the following years: 2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13.2012-13 Junior Academic Bowl Champions, and to Chris Attias (9 points) and Patrick Sullivan (10 points), Academic Bowl All Stars!

Again this year, the WMS Wildcat KMO Team competed with tens of thousands of students in the U.S. and several foreign lands in the Knowledge Master Open academic competition on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. More than 2,000 middle school, junior high and high school teams faced their computers to answer 200 challenging questions in the event, earning points for the speed and accuracy of their answers.
In the fall competition, the team placed third in South Carolina and in the top 26th percentile worldwide .
Designed to stimulate learning and recognition for academic achievement, the Knowledge Master Open runs on classroom computers to allow all students the opportunity to compete in a large academic event without the expense of traveling to a central site. The competition is presented twice each school year by Academic Hallmarks, a Colorado software publisher.

The WMS Wildcat KMO Team competed with tens of thousands of students in the U.S. and several foreign lands in the Knowledge Master Open academic competition on Wednesday, December 7, 2010. More than 2,000 middle school, junior high and high school teams faced their computers to answer 200 challenging questions in the event, earning points for the speed and accuracy of their answers.
The twelve students on the Wildcat team scored over half of 2,000 possible points to place sixth in the state and in the top third overall in the world.
In the spring, they scored 2nd in the state of South Carolina.
Students on the Wildcat team were: Ben Epstein, Nate Fata, Kade Ford, David Gleaton, Christine Humowitz, Sam Insignares, Christopher Kaylor, Krystina Millar, Richard Rasheed Jackson Riley, Jackson Stacy, and Nick Streiffert.

WMS placed 3 members on the All Star team; Paul Seley answered the most questions of all competitors with 59 correct answers. Molly McNeill and Ben Nelson also made the District All Stars.

First Place Team 2004-2005

They swept the double-elimination tournament, defeating Georgetown 20-13 in the 1st game and Carvers Bay 16-9 in the second. They went on to beat Georgetown again, 17-16, in the exciting final match to bring the championship trophy back to Waccamaw. Paul Seley led the scoring with 20 points followed by Ben Brackett with 11 points. Both were named to the District All-Star Team. Way to go, Wildcats!
